Just because Thanksgiving hasn’t come yet doesn’t mean we can’t start giving thanks for all that we have and share with others. In order to show our appreciation and celebrate the many contributions of nurses, I want to share what I am thankful for, as well as a few of my nursing colleagues.
For this November 2018, I asked myself, and three of my colleagues – “What are you MOST thankful for as a nurse?”
Hospice RN of 12 years:
“To be honest, there are too many things that I am thankful for to list. But if I had to choose one, the biggest thing I am thankful for is the gift to ease my patient’s anxieties and relieve their pain. It is the most important aspect of nursing, and I am thankful for every opportunity to bring relief to my clients and their families.”
Critical Care RN of 9 years:
“I am thankful to be part of such a talented and diverse patient care team. I’m so grateful that I get to work with people from all over the world with varying years of experience and skill sets. I’ve never felt strength in diversity like this before, and I am so thankful that I am appreciated for my individual contributions and talents.”
Medical Surgical RN of 9 years:
“Receiving thank you’s from my clients and their family members has got to be what I am most thankful for as a nurse. At the end of the day, it’s the warm smiles, the hand holding, and the strong hugs that my clients give me that makes my heart swell. Nothing beats heartfelt thanks from those I care for, and I am so thankful that my daily work is paid in priceless sincerity.”
Nurse Educator of 7 years:
“I am most thankful for the continued opportunity to share my passion of nursing education and patient care excellence with the community in which I serve.”
