Due to COVID-19, Pearson Vue and NCSBN collaborated with local authorities to come up with a plan to decrease the risk of infection by reducing the amount of time candidates were inside the testing centers. The result of that collaboration was an across the board change that affected both the RN and PN NCLEX exams. Currently, both exams have a minimum of 60 questions that each candidate must answer before any decisions are made regarding passing or failing the exam. The maximum number of questions is 130, and the time limit for the exam is four hours. These changes were set to expire on Oct. 1st. 2020, which is when the new changes go into effect.
Here is what you can expect on Oct. 1st, 2020:
- Both the RN and PN exams will have a minimum number of questions set at 75
- Both the RN and PN exams will have a maximum number of questions set at 145
- The time is increasing from four hours to five hours
- The 15 pilot/research questions are being reintroduced into the test
- The ROOT scoring system will no longer consider the past 60 questions. Instead, it will consider all items answered up to the point when you run out of time.
The good news is that the content and difficulty of the exam has not changed as a result of these modifications! You still need to focus on strategies, and reviewing content from the NCSBN test plan.
