Nurses positively impact the lives of many people on a daily basis. Often times, it’s the sincere gratitude that patients and their families provide that helps to motivate nurses to keep delivering compassionate care.

In celebration of this year’s Nurses Week, we asked five patients to provide some words of appreciation for the nurses who have cared for them in their times of need. Here are their words of appreciation:

Thank you…for providing emotional support

“The day that I was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, my nurse went above and beyond to provide me and my family with endless emotional support and answers to a billion questions. She held me when I cried, and worked diligently to keep my family in good spirits during that difficult time. I will never forget how she made me feel, and for that, she has my eternal gratitude.”

Thank you…for providing such detailed care

“When I was in the hospital the day after receiving my pacemaker, I remember my nurse coming into my room at 7:30 in the morning to introduce himself and alert me that my pacemaker was not working properly, telling me to not be alarmed. He explained that my heart rate was only 43 beats per minute and that the pacemaker was not capturing it correctly. He called the physician at my bedside and stayed with me until they took me back into the cardiac cath lab. His calm and professional approach made me feel safe, and I can’t thank him enough!”

Thank you…for your consistent compassion

“I have spent my entire life in hospitals due to my seizure disorder. The nurses who have cared for me over the years are a true gift from God. Their limitless compassion and dedication to making me feel better each time I am admitted is inspiring. Nurses do so much for me and my family and we are very thankful for their compassionate and skillful care.”

Thank you…for your working without recognition

“All I can say about nurses is that they deserve all the credit in the world. The unfortunate reality is that they don’t get enough recognition for their selfless dedication to their patients, and I just want to let everyone know that I have so much respect for nurses. Thank you for saving my life, over and over again! You deserve a great deal more recognition for the amazing work you do!”

Thank you…for leading a life of sacrifice

“My appreciation for nurses…where do I start? Nurses are amazing, benevolent, compassionate, dedicated, efficient, intelligent, resourceful, tenacious, trustworthy, and valuable. I’ve had many nurses care for me and members of my family over the years, and they have really made all the difference. Thank you, nurses, for all the sacrifices you make to take care of those in need!”

Best Wishes!
